This month for Black History Month, we’ll be discussing the modern classic, “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker. This powerful novel follows the chaotic lives of Celie and her sister, Nettie, from their beginnings in a small Tennessee town in the early twentieth century. It’s a poignant novel of strength and resilience where Celie learns to be strong. PBS calls it “Beautifully imagined and deeply compassionate,” and continues, “this classic novel of American literature is rich with passion, pain, inspiration, and an indomitable love of life.” This book made The Great American Read list and it is well worth your time. Registration required. Email joe@poconolibrary.org to have us reserve a copy for you, or visit our e-book platform—Hoopla—for an e-book to read on your phone or tablet.
This month's book club will be postponed to Tuesday, February 20th due to reports of a snow storm. Book club usually meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
