I've known about Little Free Libraries for a few years now, and even gave a book & took a book at an LFL in State College, PA and one in Rehoboth Beach, DE. I've always wanted to do a Little Free Library, even though we have a regular "big library". This year because of the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions, I realized it that people needed access to books more than ever, and really wanted to make sure our kids and families had as many books as they need. I reached out to Gayle at Read Across Monroe (an amazing program that provides free books to children of all ages located up here at The Mountain Center). I asked Gayle if she could help us stock the LFL @ PMPL, and she gave an enthusiastic YES! Every week all summer Gayle dropped off a box of new and gently used kids books. I wrote an impact grant for a Little Free Library, and a miracle happened! We won a free LFL box from the Impact Grant Program. I painted it to be festive and weather resistant and over one weekend. Then John & Paul installed the secure post, and the LFL @ PMPL was born. Anyone can use our LFL. Usually a person has to give a book to take a book, but sometimes a person or child will just need to take a book. That is totally fine. We have a huge stock of nice books to keep filling it up. Our goal is to provide 24/7 access to books, no questions asked. It's also pretty cool that the LFL @ PMPL is on the interactive world map for the Little Free Library program, and there are over 100,000 LFL around the world! Come by and see for yourself how cute and functional it is. The LFL @ PMPL is only one of 5 LFL in Monroe County, and I want to keep installing them around our community over the next few years.
